Panaji, Oct 25: Due to the red alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), operations at the Dudhsagar waterfall will be suspended on Thursday and Friday. Visitors have been warned against visiting the tourist spot due to overflowing rivers flooding the road.
As per sources, on Wednesday, jeeps designated for tourist visits were not permitted to undertake the journey from the range forest office to the waterfall.
As reported in TOI, a forest official told the publication, “Before jeeps enter the gate, visitors have to descend into the river. If they cannot navigate the river due to the rise in water level, they cannot come to the forest department gate and avail the ticket which is mandatory for the visit. We are concerned about the lives of the visitors; it is not about the money. Tour operators must be sensitive and not put undue pressure on government agencies to restart the jeep trips. We cannot take a risk and put tourists’ lives into jeopardy,” the official added.
