Rousing welcome to Congress leader D K Shivakumar in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Oct 26 (IANS): Congress leader D K Shivakumar, 57, returned to a rousing welcome at the city airport on Saturday, nearly two months after he flew to Delhi on being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case, a party official said.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal-Secular leader H D Kumaraswamy and Congress leaders from Kanakapura, his home constituency, were present at the airport.

"About 500 supporters, including state Congress leaders, greeted him at the airport and accompanied him in a convoy to the party office. There he was accorded a hero's welcome," party spokesman Ravi Gowda told IANS.

Shivakumar was released from Tihar Jail after 50 days on Thursday on a conditional bail, granted by the Delhi High Court. He was in custody in connection with a case under the Prevention Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002, filed on a complaint by the Income-Tax Department, which had seized Rs 8.6 crore cash from his flat in New Delhi in August 2017.

"The central government misused law enforcing agencies, like the ED, the I-T Department and the Central Bureau of Investigation to harass our senior leader Shivakumar," said state Congress chief Dinesh Gundurao.

The Karnataka High Court on August 29 rejected Shivakumar's plea for interim protection against arrest in a 'hawala' case.

The alleged money laundering came to light after raids by the tax sleuths his premises in Bengaluru, Kanakapura and New Delhi on August 2, 2017.

Cases were filed against him and four others under sections 277 and 278 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and sections 120(B), 193 and 199 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Shivakumar was a Cabinet Minister in the previous JD-S-Congress coalition government (May 2018-July 2019) and Energy Minister in the Congress government (2013-2018).

What about the rousing welcome given to murderers by your party? Have you thought of the emotional distress and pain the families the victims of those horrific lynchings must be going through? D.K Shivkumar's guilt is yet to be proven, but those murderers committed those murders openly which are recorded and posted by their own supporters on social media for all to see, and yet they are free. Where was your sense of outrage then?

Abdullah, travel on our national highway from Hassan to Sakleshpur, & look at the worst condition of this highway. We talk about attracting tourists to travel on these filthy roads. During the previous govt I had sent several emails to National highway authority, to provide a better highway, as I drive very often on this highway. After the new govt took over I had high hopes. Six years have been passed, but the highway has turned bad to worst.
So friends don't expect any good work from any of our politicians. Their only aim is to fill their pockets.

"Hero's welcome!!" For what? For making money at the cost of the state? Whoever it is, be it from the Congress or the BJP, a minister who misuses his power for his personal benefit is a criminal and deserves to be shunned by the people. Here we have people garlanding this man and carrying him on their shoulders as if he a freedom fighter. When we are ready to accept such people as our heroes, why won't the politicians take advantage of this and feather their nest? I am not alluding this to Shivkumar alone. The BJP supporters have also done this in the past and until and unless the people don't change this mindset, this country will continue to be looted by the politicians. We get what we deserve. We don't deserve anything better than this, that is why we are electing politicians who are criminals and corrupt.

Visual, Our Country has been ruined by our corrupt, criminal & communal minded politicians. Look at our roads full of potholes, garbage accumulated on road side, cows grazing in these dirty garbage mounds. None of us consider the performance & their contribution while voting. Many of us vote our politicians based on our religion & caste sentiments. At this rate our country will never prosper in the near future.
