Mangaluru: Is murder of Fiona Cutinho by her brother a case of sibling rivalry?

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 27: More details are being unearthed in the case of the ghastly murder of Fiona Cutinho, whose skeleton was found in the forest behind her home. It is learnt the alleged killer Samson, Fiona's real brother, had failed in the engineering exams and was addicted to mobile. He used to spend most of his time at home itself. The police are of the opinion that he must have killed his sibling Fiona thinking that the parents are giving more encouragement to his younger sister than him.

The decomposed skeleton of Fiona Swedal Cutinho (16), who was missing since the last 18 days, was found in the forest behind their house at Kambalapadavu at Pajir village near Ullal. The police have confirmed that her elder brother Samson (18) himself had murdered her and threw her body in the forest.

Fiona is the daughter of Francis Cutinho, a resident of Pajir village and was studying in first PU of St Agnes College in the city. The parents of Fiona had filed a missing complaint in Konaje police station on October 9, saying that, Fiona, who had been to Mangaluru city on October 8 had not returned to her home. The residents of Mudipu had submitted an appeal to the city police commissioner urging him to investigate the matter as Fiona was not found even after 15 days.

When the police investigated the matter, the last network location of mobile of deceased Fiona was showing Mudipu as the area. The police, based on this clue, interrogated the family members intensely. When the police subjected Samson Cutinho, brother of Fiona Cutinho to more interrogation on Saturday, October 26, he confessed to the crime and confirmed with the police that he had killed her and threw her body in the forest behind their house.

Hair, teeth, certain parts of the skeleton of Fiona and her mobile were found in the forest, when the police searched the same on the night of Saturday, October 26, based on the confession of Samson. As it was midnight on Saturday, the police have decided to continue the search operation for more clues and evidence on Sunday, October 27. Police have cordoned off the area of the forest where the skeleton of Fiona was found.

Samson has confessed that he killed his sister at home, when the parents were away for some silly reason by bludgeoning her head with hammer. Police have confiscated the hammer with which Samson killed his sister Fiona.

It is very sad to note that our youngsters are impatient and quick to anger. The brother alone knows the reason for the murder, still we can not pass judgement on anyone. A piece of advice to all parents. Please restrict the use of smart phones. Smartphones are a bane to our society today. When schools conduct seminars on Mental health please attend them without fail. There may be a victim of mental illness in your family or friends' circle. Please be alert when you notice the signs and be sympathetic and be of help. Do not ever think that my family is perfect. Thank God if it is. You can still be a good Samaritan elsewhere. It is high time that we organise these seminars/ workshop in schools and parishes too.

Samson is into depression looks like.. failure dejected, helpless...unfortunate no one realizes these things... Yeahh killing someone is not an excuse... but each one needs to be careful these days of what other person is goin thru... stop humiliating other person and stop comparing... these are the major reasons for such scenarios. Wish parents can support the children equally... may a bit more for the one not doing so well... well can’t define the limits how.. RIP Fiona.

Sibling rivalry!!!? Are we foolish to believe this? Do not try to cover the real story. This guy must be drug addict.
Parents of these kids must be trying to cover the real truth. If they do so then they are not giving justice to the poor daughter. Girl is missing from almost 20 days and police found her now? Why so family did not support police? First try vomit everything from the brother and his network. Also catch the mother and father and let them vomit the truth.

Really sad for this girl. Rest In peace dear.

What was he doing at home for 18 days. Parents didnot question him. They did not got any clue or doubt. May be he was busy helping others to misguide. On a fit of range he has done but crime is crime. Now parents has to run from post to pillar. They lost one child and another one is a criminal. What went wrong in their upbringing god only knows. Have mercy on them lord.

Self control while dealing, playing with siblings very much required. Sometimes in a fit of an anger such as these extreme things bound to happen which should be avoided. Added addictions would enhance the anger to the extreme, that definitely need professional counselling.

Too much petting and leniency towards male child and bit of negligence towards girl child can also be dangerous as there is a possibility of boys taking advantage of the same which also should be avoided, parental control and guidance in this regard is very much required.

Around a hour or two hours of prayers such as Rosary would definitely assist in calming down disturbed mind and heart.

What is going on this generation. Difficult to read their mind. Frustration is coming out on this form. Either killing or suicide. Parents r struggling to earn their livelihood for the sake of living and then children r showing results in this kind then what is the use of giving birth. Grow up children. Think twice before committing heinous crime.

It's all circunstancial evidence until proved. There are ways to ascertain the murder weapon e.g. the hammer should contain the DNA of the victim. The skeletal remains should also be verified using DNA test or Dental records which are unique to each individual. But the question is, does our police have the resources for these expensive tests?
A murder case is always built based on -
    Motive
    Alibi
    Evidence - circumstantial and definitive.
    Murder weapon.
    Body of victim.

Courts do not accept circumstantial evidence in India , otherwise our politicians wouldn't have been roamed freely with Z+ security freely.
18 days and incessant rain enough to decompose the body. But family something hiding . In those periods body stinks rapidly and smelt upto minimum 500 mtrs .

Very very sad incident. A brother is giving up his life for sister, here he killed her instead. We have achieved so many things in our life, but a simple thing like walking as brother and sister on this earth is yet to be achieved by some cruel brothers.

Devil knows his time is short so he is active these days
Therefore a warning to all parents please keep an eye on the movements of your kids or children
Spend every day some time with them
I was also used to hate my sisters when I was around 18 years. Later when they got married I realized that sisters love is amazing and We must always thankful to god for giving sisters in our family
What Does Revelation 12:12 Mean? - "Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who ...
Be glad, all you who live there! But how terrible it will be for the earth and the sea! The devil has come down to you. He is very angry. He knows his time is short." ...

Deva, there's law and judge's for that to decide.

If he's Hanged who would looked after their parents. In jail he'll get plenty of time to think why he took his sister's life. That guilt Will be with him till he breathes his last. Let him live with the guilt in jail and even if he's out on bail.
