Binder and Dalla Porta take Moto2, Moto3 titles at Phillip Island

Phillip Island (Australia), Oct 27 (IANS): South African Brad Binder (KTM) claimed victory in the Moto2 category at the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix's Phillip Island circuit, while Italy's Lorenzo Dalla Porta took out the Moto3 race as well as the world title.

Binder won the Moto2 ahead of Spanish teammate Jorge Martin (KTM) and the Swiss Thomas Luthi (Kalex), who nudged out Spain's Jorge Navarro (Speed Up) and the Italian Lorenzo Baldassarri (Kalex) in fourth and fifth on Saturday.

Teammates Binder and Martin generally stayed in first and second position from start to finish, with Binder claiming his third win of the season, reports Efe news.

Moto2 championship leader Alex Marquez (Kalex) of Spain struggled and finished in eighth place.

In the Moto3, Italian Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Honda) won ahead of Spanish teammate Marcos Ramirez (Honda) and his compatriot Albert Arenas (KTM) in third.

Dalla Porta, whose third victory of the season also gave him the Moto3 World Championship, capitalized after his main rival, Spain's Aron Canet (KTM), crashed out of the competition on lap three.

Japan's Tatsuki Suzuki (Honda) and Great Britain's John McPhree (Honda) took out fourth and fifth, respectively.

The MotoGP race is yet to come after the second qualifying round was canceled mid-race on Saturday and moved to Sunday due to unsafe weather conditions.
