New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS): Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raza believes the sanction imposed on Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan is a lesson for all sports lovers and sportspersons that no one is bigger than the game.

"So Shakib Al Hasan's ban has a lesson for all sports lovers and sportsmen: if you disregard the game and try to become bigger than the game by sidetracking the laid rules and protocols then be ready for a fantastic fall! Sad," Ramiz tweeted.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Dean Jones also backed Ramiz's views and said, "How many times are these guys lectured? Before every T20 and T10 and other tournaments... The ICC and ACU officials brief them #deafears."

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also said that he has no sympathy for Shakib and that the Bangladesh cricketer should have been handed a long ban.

"No sympathy what's so ever for Shakib Al Hasan ... Non what's so ever ... In this era the players get briefed all the time about what they can and cant do and what that have to report straight away ... two years isn't enough ... Should have been longer," Vaughan said in a tweet.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday banned Shakib for two years, with one year of that suspended, after he accepted three charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

Under the provisions of the code, Shakib chose to admit the charges and agreed the sanction with the ICC in lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing. Subject to him satisfying the conditions in respect of the suspended part of the sanction, the all-rounder will be free to resume international cricket on October 29, 2020.
