Mangaluru, Nov 1: MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangaluru, organized a programme to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Thursday, October 31, at MSNM Besant Campus in Bondel.
The chief guest for the event was Lt Col Gracian Sequeira, administrative officer, 18, Karnataka Battalion NCC, Mangaluru. Addressing the students Lt Col Sequeira said, “Though our country is diverse in caste, creed, religion, culture, and other such aspects, we stand unitedas one nation.” He gave an insight into the importance of Ekta Diwas and how Sardar Vallabhai Patel played a significant role in single handedly integrating the Nation. “Just like every drop of ocean matters, every single student and citizen matters in building a nation.The Army works tirelessly along the borders to ensure that the Nation sleeps peacefully. The Army feels quite happy and proud whenever citizens acknowledge their efforts on eventful days such as Ekta Divas and Kargil Vijay Diwas,” he said.
“Due to the way in which we are conditioned to think from a young age, many people are narrow-minded when it comes to religion, caste or creed. Students who are the flag bearers of our great nation are in a unique position to bring about a change in the attitudes, look beyond religious divisions and put the nation first in everything that they do,” he said.
Raghuveer Souterpete, district youth coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangaluru, was the guest of honour. He emphasized on the need to join National Cadet Corps and how it leads topersonality development of the student by impartingqualities like communication skills, leadership skills, discipline and time management. He introduced Nehru Yuva Kendra and encouraged the students to be a part of its activities.
Dr Vishnu Prasanna K N, dean, MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies administered the Unity pledge to all present. Dr Molly S Chaudhuri, director, MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies, delivered the presidential address.
Nanditha Sunil, assistant professor, MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies, coordinated the programme.
