Mangalore, Aug 11: It was just a couple of weeks ago that we had heard of an incident where a Dubai-bound AI Express flight was diverted and forced to land at Mumbai airport following the unruly behavior of two passengers. In a separate incident a Mumbai-bound Kingfisher domestic flight had to return soon after it took off from Mangalore airport after it was noticed that a checked in passenger was left behind.
On Tuesday morning, Air India express hit the headlines again, but this time for a more humane reason. The Muscat - Abu Dhabi bound AI Express (IX 815) carrying 170 passengers took off as scheduled at 9.10am. One of the passengers onboard, identified as Irene Rodrigues , travelling along with her husband suddenly developed severe headache and uneasiness. When the pain was unbearable, her husband requested immediate medical attention with the flight commander. Since no medical assistance was immediately available on board , the captain communicated with Mangalore airport authority and requested for medical assistance and returned to Mangalore within 15 minutes from taking off.
The ground Authorities with the help of AI Express were on standby with all medical facilities along with a team of Doctors. Irene Rodrigues was immediately administered medical assistance on landing and was later shifted to a private hospital in Mangalore.
The flight took off again at 10.45 am after deplaning the Rodrigues couple at Mangalore airport.
