Mangaluru, Nov 1: Hostel students of AIMIT, St Aloysius College (autonomous), here celebrated Deepavali on October 30 at Arthur Shenoi auditorium.
Fr DEnzil Lobo SJ, director, AIMIT led the students’ gathering into a bhajan. This was followed by a welcome dance. Lestan D’Souza, warden of AIMIT hostels and the programme coordinator, gave an introduction to the feast and welcomed the gathering. A video clip explaining the meaning of Deepavali by Sadguru was played.
An inter religious prayer service was held wherein three students read relevant passages from the Bhagavatgeeta, Koran and New Testament highlighting the meaning of LIGHT in Hinduism, Islam and Christianity.
Fr Dionyisus Vaz SJ, rector, Aloysian Institutions, who was present, presented an inspiring message to the students highlighting the importance of coming together to celebrate the feast and experiencing unity among us which is very important for our country.
Seventeen students of Post-Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance (PGDBF), the one year residential course for the selected candidates for Catholic Syrian Bank offered saplings of fruit trees as a sign of 'Green initiative'.
Students of the ladies' hostel entertained the gathering with a dance.
The programme ended with sumptuous food at the Food Court of the institute.
