Red Bull Forwards' inaugural edition from Nov 5


Jalandhar, Nov 4 (IANS) The inaugural edition of the Red Bull Forwards - a first of its kind 5 vs 5 hockey tournament - will be held in Jalandhar on November 5 at Surjit Hockey Stadium. The competition not only helps to increase the popularity of hockey but also gives an opportunity to get trained and play with international player and Indian team caption Manpreet Singh.

From being played in the clubs of Kolkata, Bombay and Punjab back in the 1920s to India's participation in the upcoming 2020 Olympics, hockey has only made its identity strong as the national game of India. To encourage the sport in India, Red Bull will introduce the first edition of Red Bull Forwards in Jalandhar.

Open for men who are 16+ years, Red Bull Forwards uses interesting rules such as 2 x 7 minutes game, optional goalkeeper, 5 starting players in the field + 3 substitutes, maximum 8 players per team, 16-26 years (of which at least 3 players are older than 18).

Commenting on the tournament, Red Bull athlete and India captain Manpreet Singh said: "Over the years, hockey as a sport has seen immense growth in India. It is an honour to be associated with a brand like Red Bull that continues to support and motivate young talent. Red Bull Forwards is a great opportunity for youngsters who are passionate about hockey. I look forward to the game and wish all the participants' good luck."
