Udupi: Month-long Celebrations on Birth Anniversary of Lord of Gopis

Udupi, Aug 13: The historically famous Sri Krishna Mutt here has embarked on Sri Krishna Mahotsav, a month-long worship and offering of prayers to Lord Krishna, from Thursday August 13 to Saturday September 12, on the occasion of Srikrishna Janmastami.
Moodbidri Alvas Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva inaugurated Sri Krishna Mahotsav, here on Thursday August 13 morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Alva said that the Indians residing across Kanyakumari to Kashmir share the same religious fervour. Any conflict that arises in the name of God is not justified. Hence, the month-long celebrations of Sri Krishna Janmashtami undertaken by Sri Krishna Mutt, serves the spiritual needs of all the denomination of community, he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Alva expressed the wish that Sri Krishna Mahotsav whould instill peace and brotherhood in the country and across the globe.
Sri Sugunendrateertha Swami of Puttige Mutt, in his message to the gathering, said that the Mutt had organized Sri Krishna Navotsav, a nine-day long programme of offering special worships to Lord Krishna, during 2008, while Sri Krishna Mahotsav, a month-long celebrations, are being organized this year. The continuous offering of prayers and puja to Lord Krishna are sure to earn his grace. Besides, food is also being offered to all the devotees throughout the day in the Mutt free of cost. All these good deeds of devotees will be blessed abundantly, especially during the Sri Krishna Mahotsav, he added.
The programme was presided over by Bangalore-based astrologer S K Jain.
Sri Laxmivarateertha Swami of Shiroor Mutt, Sri Raghumanyateertha Swami and his disciple Sri Raghuvarendrateertha of Bheemanakatte Mutt, entrepreneur Pramod Madhwaraj, municipal president Dinakar Shetty, Ambalapady Sri Janardhan Mahakali temple trustee Vijay Ballal and Kadiyali Sri Mahishamardini temple managing trustee Anantaram Upadhyaya, were present on the dais.
