Shcherbakova claims second crown of season at Cup of China

Chongqing, Nov 9 (IANS): Russian champion Anna Shcherbakova was crowned at an ISU figure skating Grand Prix for the second time in the season after topping the ladies free skate with two quadruple jumps here on Saturday.

The 15-year-old sensation, a runaway leader after Friday's short programme, completed an under-rotated quad Lutz-triple toeloop combination and a quad Lutz with a not-clear edge to open her free skate performing to "Gnossienne No. 1, The Firebird".

Her four-minute routine, which earned her an event high 152.53 points and 226.04 overall, was highlighted by a triple Lutz-triple Loop combination, a triple Flip-single Euler-triple Salchow and a triple Lutz jump, as well as two four-level spins, reports Xinhua news agency.

The world junior silver medallist, however, failed to beat her personal best free skate score of 160.16 and that of the total score of 227.76, set at the Skate America where she made her senior debut three weeks ago.

Shchebakova's 23-year-old teammate Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, the 2015 world champion, topped the ladies free skate rankings with a personal best score of 143.53, but was beaten to the third place overall by Japan's Miyahara Satoko with a 2-point deficit.

South Korean youngster You Young, 15, moved up to fourth place after scoring 130.32 in free skate, while China's teenage skaters Chen Hongyi and Zhu Yi finished in ninth and 11th places respectively on 155.12 and 139.63 points.
