Mumbai, Aug 17: A key index of the Indian equities markets started the week's trade in the red, and was 1.6 percent below its previous close about five minutes after the opening bell.
The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened Monday at 15,284.23 points, as against Friday's close at 15,411.63 points. It soon slipped lower to 15,156.03 points, 255.6 or 1.66 percent down from its previous close.
The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too was trading in the negative terrain at 4,498.35 points, a loss of 1.78 percent.
Broader market indices were also losing with the BSE midcap index down 1.56 percent, and the BSE smallcap index 1.18 percent lower.
