Mangaluru, Nov 18: Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Dakshina Kannada district, local branch, here in association with Srinivas College of Pharmacy, Valachil, observed national Pharmacy Week 2019 from November 18 to 22.
Dr Rajeshwari Devi, district medical officer, Wenlock District Hospital, Mangaluru was the chief guest of the inaugural function on November 18. She advised the gathering to develop a professional attitude and to be vigilant on drug abuse and its influence on the younger generation.
Dr A Srinivas Rao, pro-chancellor, Srinivas University, vice-president, A Shama Rao Foundation, Mangaluru in his presidential remarks called upon the budding pharmacists to involve in research in nanotechnology area to design life-saving drugs.
Dr A R Shabaraya, principal, Srinivas College of Pharmacy and president, IPA, local branch, Mangaluru exhorted the young pharmacists to change from product oriented to practice oriented approach and proposed the vote of thanks.
As part of the National Pharmacy week celebration, a drug abuse awareness pharma rally was taken out from Valachil View Point to the college campus. Dr Srinivas Mayya, principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology addressed the students to bring awareness about drug abuse and a plastic-free environment among the public and flagged off the rally.
Dr E V S Subrahmanyam, professor, Srinivas College of Pharmacy and vice-president IPA welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of observing the national Pharmacy week every year to bring awareness of pharmacy profession to society.
Anusha Shetty, student council president, highlighted the importance of Pharmacy Week. Aysha and Fathima anchored the programme, Dr Satish S, Dr Krishnananda Kamath, Shripaty D and Viresh K Chandur, coordinators were present during the function.
