Mangalore, Aug 21: A peace committee meeting was held at the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday August 21, to discuss and provide suggestions for maintaining peace in the district.

V Ponnuraj, deputy commissioner (DC), said at the start of the meet that it was essential to maintain peace in the city as well as the district, and hence, all citizens should be responsible for this.

The meeting was to seek the opinions of leaders of organizations and the leaders of political parties.

Ramanath Rai, member of legislative assembly, said that the violence reported is mainly within the city. “The violence has been inspired by some of the organizations lead by well-educated people. So, the police should take necessary action against the culprit without any fear, but spare the innocents”, he added.

Ibrahim Kodijal, vice-president, district Congress party, said that ban orders in the city by 8 pm was hurting the businessmen in the city and suggested that the time be changed to 10 pm.

M B Puranik, leader of Vishwa Hindu Parishat, said that the ban orders by the district administration was good for maintaining peace as the incidents had happened during night time and so the decision by the district administration should be appreciated.

Hanumantha Kamath, president, Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike, said, “The peace committee meeting should not be confined to speeches by leaders but should be implemented also. Most of the religious leaders speak about peace in the meeting but do differently outside. Some of the leaders are advocating the culprits arrested by police in relation to the violence, and this should be stopped”.

Shrinivas Kamath, president, Kanara Chamber of Commerce (KCC), vented his anger against the national media and said that they were depicting the city in a bad light and showing it to be hit by violence indicating that living here is dangerous. He said that minor issues were being blown out of proportion and this should be stopped.

District-in-charge minister Krishna Palemar, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, superintendent of police A S Rao, and additional deputy commissioner Prabhakar Sharma were present.

We need solution to our current issues not mount on top of what we have, we Indians provide solution on ares like Medicines,Software,Energy so on.. while this is important issue for our country why don''''t we brainstorm for solution to it so that we can live peacefully. Let us base our faith on religious scripture like Vedas,Bible, Quran & Guru Granth -based on these books, agree on what is common to all of us and leave the differences aside.

Have Nationwide debate get best of brains who represent a community to sort out the difference - In current situation is everyone of us is a loser including political parties , Though BJP Bans pub culture,Ban on veil,Ban on conversion,Ban on Hindus befriending non-Hindus, communal riots - none are getting benefited out of it and this strategy has failed. Root cause is we have forgotten our Creator and his commands,so we need to get back to our basics.

Generation before us did not fight like this infact they complimented each other reason being they were holding value system of scriptures while today we are holding ideas of evil leaders. Let us get a frame work which is common to all faiths and live with it peacefully.

Until the practice of religion in public is completely viped out, the peace cannot be attained. No religious processions be allowed in public. All public address systems concerning religion polluting sound must be stopped. Religion must be practiced within a individual''s home or in the designated compounds of worship. The practice of religion in public is an advantage to political parties and they maneuver the situation and give a political color. Wake up Mangaloreans, otherwise this will be another Gujarat or Orissa.
