Udupi, Aug 23: Alva’s College, Moodbidri bagged the overall championship trophy at the Mangalore University inter-collegiate cross country race held here in Milagres College, Kallianpur on Saturday August 22.
Yashwant P G of Alva’s College bagged the first place in the cross country race of 12.5 kilometres by covering the distance in 41.18 minutes in the men’s category. Alva’s College participants Manjunath K N and Devanna Naik bagged the second and third place, respectively.
Alva’s College participant Saroja Gowda bagged the first place in the cross country race of six kilometers by covering the distance in 22.03 minutes in the women’s category. Mamata and Deepika A, both from Alva’s College bagged the second and third place, respectively.
Alva’s College bagged Kurunji Vishwantha Gowda memorial rolling shield for the successive sixth time in men’s cross country race, while Kaikure Ramanna Gowda memorial rolling shield was bagged by Alva’s College women’s division for consecutive fifth time. K S S College, Subrahmanya secured second place and Mangalore University College bagged the third place in the men’s division whereas SDM College, Ujire bagged the second place and K S S College, Subrahmanya bagged the third place in the women’s division.
In all 22 colleges under Mangalore University participated in the cross country race.
Prizes distribution programme
Milagres College lecturer Laveena D’Souza and Kallianpur gram panchayat vice-president Satish Sherigar inaugurated the cross country race on Saturday August 22 morning.
MLA Raghupati Bhat, Milagres College correspondent Fr Marshall Saldanha, Kallianpur Rotary president Vijay P Mayadi, MIT physical education director Narayan Prabhu, Mangalore University physical education director Dr Nagalingappa, College principal professor Hilda P Rodrigues and race organizer Augustine A Dias were present.
Professor Joseph Peter Fernandes compered the programme.
