M'luru: MCCS organizes sports meet at Infant Jesus Hr Pry, St Agnes Special School as part of SEWA

Mangaluru, Nov 22: As part of CBSE SEWA (Social Empowerment through Work and Action) activities, Mount Carmel students of class XI took the initiative of organizing a sports meet for the students of Infant Jesus Higher Primary School, Maryhill on November 20.

The sports meet began with a formal inaugural function with a prayer and a welcome dance. Principal, Sr Melissa in her welcome speech highlighted the importance of sports and games and encouraged the students to participate wholeheartedly in various events. Sr Sujyothi, headmistress of Infant Jesus School declared the sports meet open by releasing multi-coloured balloons.

After the formal function, children were divided into two categories. For stds I and II events like lemon and spoon, frog jump and dog and the bone were conducted at their school premises. Children participated with a lot of vigour and excitement. Events like book balancing, 100 mt and 50 mt race and dodge ball were conducted for stds III to V; long jump, 100 mt race and dodge ball for stds VI to VII. The children were served refreshments which they all relished.

After the events, the winners were awarded prizes bringing about a wave of joy on the young faces. All the children were given stationery items as a token of appreciation. Sr Sujyothi thanked and appreciated the hard work of all the class XI students. It was indeed an enriching experience for all involved as they learnt the meaning of planning and execution of the event and the essence of teamwork.

At St Agnes Special School, Bendore: Students of class IX organized a sports meet on November 21 for the students of St Agnes Special School, as a SEWA (Social Empowerment through Work and Action) project. The guests were welcomed by the special school children to the rhythm of the band. The sports meet commenced with prayer followed by a short inaugural programme.

The dancers of class IX welcomed the gathering with a dance performance. Sr Melissa welcomed the chief guest, Sr Marie Anita AC and principal of St Agnes Special School, Sr Shruthi AC with a sapling. The sports meet was declared open by the chief guest by releasing colourful balloons into the sky. Sr Shruthi thanked the students of MCCS for coming forward to organize the sports meet and also for the continuous support given to the school, especially for providing mid-day meals to the children for a year. Refreshments were served to all the students. The track events were conducted for the students of SASS who were categorized under two age groups namely 8-11 and 12-15 and also under higher and lower ability categories.

Accordingly track events of 25 mt, 50 mt and 100 mt were conducted for them. Winners and participants of the various events were felicitated with medals and prizes by the principal and staff members. During the events, students of MCCS showed a lot of interest, involvement and empathy towards the special school children.
