Mangalore, Aug 26:  An 11-year-old boy died after he slipped and fell into a water tank (sump) near a building under construction at Hat Hill near Chilimbi on Wednesday August 26.

The deceased is Stany D’Sa, son of late Silvester D’Sa and Flavy D’Sa and a resident of ‘St Dominic Kripa’ near Ashok Nagar.  He was studying in the fifth standard in St Aloysius School, Urva. His brother Shreyas studies in the eighth standard.

Family sources said that the boy had been to tuition classes near Chilimbi. The police think that he might have accidentally slipped into the sump which provides water to the construction site.

Urva police have registered a case in this regard

What a tragedy! Heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the D`Sa family. Had the boy known swimming, perhaps, the chance of saving his life would have been more. Yet another reason for making swimming lessons mandatory for young children in all schools - it`s worth considering even at some extra cost to the parents. Parents also should give swimming lessons to their children from an early age. I have been campaigning for this cause for a long time now, and hope authorities will listen.

This is a sheer negligence on the contruction worker''s and the cotractor Part. Why was the tank not barricaded,Many younger children might fall into that. we have to wait until something happens or else safety is non essential to these people. Dont we have building inspectors in Mangalore to come and check the standard''s may be it might take another 50 years to reach the international safety standard method''s . May his soul rest in Peace and god give strength to the family member''s to bear the loss.
