Mangaluru: Shree Devi Institute of Technology inaugurates Aero Modeling Club

Mangaluru, Dec 4: Shree Devi Institute of Technology inaugurated the Aero Modeling Club Aero Titans of the Aeronautical Engineering department. The programme was inaugurated by Dr Suresh Kumar T N, senior space scientist, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The Aero club enables students as well as hobbyists to design, build and fly miniature aircrafts both powered as well as non-powered as it can be built with materials like paper, wood and many more. This club creates awareness in terms of indigenously developing models that could add value to the ever-demanding aviation sector.

Dr Suresh Kumar during the inaugural programme explained the various aeronautical challenges as well as his inspiring journey to the edge of space to the students. He emphasized the importance of drones and the opportunities in the drone industry subject to compliance of regulatory requirements for usage of aerospace for drones in our nation.

Aero Titans, a brochure was released, displaying various photographs of models made by the students as well as aero-sport enthusiasts in the country.

Dr Dilip Kumar K, principal welcomed the gathering and said that we need to bridge the gap between theory and its applications by nurturing and developing various designs that could be adopted by the industry. He emphasized on research in aeronautical industry, be it in fuel system, aerodynamics, either in long haul flights or defence requirements, preparedness needs to be done for reducing costs.

Dr K E Prakash, director in his presidential speech said that the college focuses on building passion in the students through aero clubs in tune with the vision and mission of the college. He also reiterated that it would create greater value to students by being part of the Aero Club, nurturing invention and innovations that are market-ready.

Prof Sudheer Kumar B N, head of the Aeronautical Engineering department, delivered the vote of thanks and spoke about the entire journey of setting up the club and said that glider modelling workshops would be conducted for a better understanding of aerodynamics regularly. Prof Suganthi P, introduced the guests and the master of the ceremony was Harish Naik, a student of the Aeronautical Engineering department.
