Kuwait: Strikers Team Clinches Sharq United Women’s Cricket Tourney

Kuwait,Sep 5: One of Kuwait's most reputed cricket clubs – The Sharq United Club celebrated its 12th Anniversary with a difference by hosting a Box Cricket Tournament for Ladies. Five Ladies' teams from Kuwait joined in the tournament that was keenly contested and one that truly revealed the hidden enthusiasm of the diligent Ladies towards the game of cricket.

Strikers team led by Marlyn emerged victorious and the Chaos team led by Lavina were Runners Up. Other teams included Wow team led by Felcita; AAK team led by Leena; and Boom Chikas led by Vanessa.

Six matches in total were played in a systematic manner and with lots of passion and sportive spirit. In the final match, Marlyn won the toss and elected to bat. Strikers scored 30 in the allotted 4 overs. In response, Chaos were all out for 13 runs. Sujatha of Strikers team devastated the Chaos team with 4 wickets in a row, which earned her not just the Best Bowlers award but also the Player of the Tournament award for her exceptional all-round performance.

















Best Batting award was won by Shivon of Boom Chikas team; Best Fielding award was won by Karen of Strikers team; and Best Wicket Keeper award was won by Premilla of Wow team. The "Most Disciplined Team" of the tournament award was presented to Agnesian Alumane Kuwait (AAK) team.

The award ceremony was graced by Sharq United seniors that included: Manoj Sharma – Chairman; Alwyn Fernandes – Vice Chairman; Patric Pinto – Director; and support team to make this tournament a success included Manohar Prabhu, Aston Picardo, Kiran Lobo and Vincent D'Souza. The tournament was anchored by Mahesh Prabhu – President of Sharq United.

Earlier, the Sharq United Club celebrated its 12th anniversary event with a traditional cake cutting ceremony by the founding members and the event was graced by Richard Nazareth – Executive Manager at National Bank of Kuwait and a Patron of Sharq United. Richard also awarded the highly prestigious "Most Valuable Member of Sharq United" award to Steve Mathias for the year 2008-09. Annual Best Batsman award was won by Kiran Lobo; Annual Best Bowler award was won by Kiran Gonsalves; Annual Best Fielder award was won by Steve Mathias; Annual Best Wicket Keeper award was won by Romeo Rosario; and the Best Annual All-Rounder award was won by Rameez Raja. Finally, a very special "Sharq United Mascot" award was presented to B. Kumar by the President.




Apart from the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Director and President of Sharq United, the awards presentation party included Vice Presidents – K.S. Kalappa, Victor Castelino and Kiran Gonsalves.

The refreshments for these events were courtesy Refreshment Trading Company and United Beverages, Kuwait. Sharq United management expresses sincere thanks to Caesars Group and Gulf Insurance Company, Kuwait for the continuous support and encouragement in all endeavors of the club.
