Mangalore: Dr Acharya Assures Rs One Crore Govt Grant for World Tulu Convention

Mangalore, Sep 6: Home minister Dr V S Acharya announced Rs 1 crore grant from the state for Vishwa Tulu Sammelan to be held at Ujire from December 10 to 13.
He was speaking at the preliminary meeting to discuss on the convention held at the sudotorium of SDM BBM College on Saturday September 5. He said that the state government has always supported programmes that help advancement of a language, art and culture. And therefore state would extend its support to organize the Tulu convention as part of its commitment, he said.
Replying to the memorandum submitted by Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari and convention committee honorary chairman Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dr Acharya said that state would make all arrangements as far as declaring a holiday to schools during the convention, introducing extra buses to help smooth transportation of people during the convention and also taking up of road repair works. Acharya reiterated that state has been undertaking all the measures to help Tulu’s inclusion in eighth schedule of the Constitution. The decision on introduction of Tulu in school curriculum as an optional language will be taken by the next year, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Heggade said that the people involved in organizing Tulu convention are striving to make it meaningful programme. A deliberation programme, Kode-Ini-Elle (yesterday-today-tomorrow) will be held as part of the preparation for the sammelan and the outcome would be placed before the government for its approval and thus make an attempt to realize the same, he said.
Various programmes will be held as part of preparations for the convention in undivided Dakshina Kannada district from Sptember 19 to November 29, he added.
The process of compiling the six volumes of Tulu dictionary into a website is on, said Heranje Krishna Bhat from Udupi. Committee general secretary Dr M Mohan Alva of Alva’s Foundation Moodbidri welcomed the gathering and secretary Dr B Yashoverma delivered the vote of thanks. Hemavathi V Heggade, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Abhaychandra Jain, U T Khader, B Ramanath Rai, Tulu Sahitya Academy president Palthady Ramakrishna Achar, State Yakshagana Academy chairman Kumble Sunder Rao, Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty and Tulukoota, Kuwait advisor Elias Sanctes among others were present.
