Actress-turned-politician Roja Quits TDP

IANS

Hyderabad, Sep 7: In a setback to the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh, the party's women wing president and actress R K Roja Monday resigned from the party alleging she was being ignored.

Roja sent her resignation letter to the TDP office through fax, alleging that the party neglected her despite her hard work.

Roja alleged that a section of party leaders was responsible for her defeat in the 2004 and 2009 assembly elections.

The actress had called on Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Aug 30, two days before the chief minister was killed in a helicopter crash Sep 2.

She, however, has not taken a decision on joining the ruling Congress party and dropped hints that she may quit politics.

Roja, who hails from TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu's native Chittoor district and is working for the TDP since 1988, had surprised political circles by calling on YSR - a week after denying his statement that she was willing to join the Congress.

Roja, who worked in over 100 Telugu and Tamil movies, lost the recent assembly elections in Chandragiri constituency in Chittoor district.
