Mangalore, Sep 7: Hameed Kandak, All India Haj Committee member and special training person for Haj, said that Haj pilgrims from in and around the city can travel directly from Mangalore airport as the central government has made all necessary arrangements for this.
Speaking at a press meet here on Monday September 7, Kandak said, “The Haj travelers’ demand of several years for travelling directly from Mangalore airport is being fulfilled. Travelling from the city will help the pilgrims to don the holy dress ‘Ahram’ while embarking on the journey from their home”, he added.
“About 3,000 persons will travel for Haj from the region. Out of 14,860 applications received for the pilgrimage, only 6,500 can travel from Karnataka”, Kandak said adding that union external affairs minister for state Shashi Tharoor has assured of providing a 1,000 extra from his quota so that a total of 7,500 can go for Haj this year.
“The training camps are conducted by the Haj committee for the pilgrims and temporary shelters with facilities will also be set up at Mangalore airport”, he said.
