Udupi: Manipal University Organizes Symposium on ‘Genetics in Clinical Practice’

: A one-day symposium on ‘Genetics in Clinical Practice – An Update’ was held at Fortune Inn Hotel Valley View here on Sunday September 6. The programme was jointly organized by Kasturba Medical College (KMC) and Manipal Life Sciences Centre (MLSC) of Manipal University.

Inaugurating the symposium, Manipal University (MU) pro-chancellor Dr H S Ballal highlighted the new developments in genetics being translated into patient care. He also emphasized the need for doctors to be aware of the recent advances in genetics and its applications in their day-to-day practice.
 
Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants, KMC dean Dr Sripathi Rao drew attention to the facilities for patients available at KMC Hospital and MLSC of MU.
 
MU registrar Dr G K Prabhu presided over the inaugural function and expressed his happiness on the response from clinicians.
 
Eminent faculty Dr Deepika Mohanty, former director of Institute of Immuno-Haematology, Mumbai, Dr Madhulika Kabra of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Dr Mamta Muranjan of KEM Hospital, Mumbai, Dr Sridevi Hegde of Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, Dr Satyamoorthy, director of MLSC, Manipal, Dr Girish of KMC Hospital, Manipal, Dr M R Sekar of MLSC, Manipal, and Dr Rathika Shenoy of KMC, Mangalore, deliberated on various issues related to genetics in clinical practice.
 
Briefing media persons, Professor Satyamoorthy underlined the various diagnostic and clinical services available for patients at Manipal.
 
MLSC senior scientist Dr P M Gopinath proposed the vote of thanks.
