Bengaluru, Dec 17: Recklessness of a school bus driver caused the death of a LKG student at Kammasandra in the rural district here on Monday, December 16 afternoon. Deekshit (4), a LKG student of St Peter's School, Kammasandra, was crushed under the wheels of the bus by which he had arrived near his home.

Bus driver, identified as Channappa, was arrested by Hebbagodi police.

Deekshit, son of Manu and Suneeta couple, live at Nantanagar near Kammasandra. They had admitted their only child, Deekshit, to St Peter's school at Kammasandra. On Monday, the boy had come back from school as usual in the afternoon. As soon as the boy alighted, the driver drove the bus ahead. Deekshit, who was just then walking by the side of the road in front of the bus, got crushed under the bus wheels. The people immediately stopped the bus, took the driver into possession and handed him over to the police.

Even though the police have made it mandatory for school buses to have an ayah to ensure safe handling of children, this bus did not have any helper for the children. The driver did not know in which direction the boy was moving after getting down. The boy died on the spot. As the bus arrived 30 minutes ahead of its scheduled time, and the parents were not informed about early arrival, the boy's parents were not at the spot.

The parents of several children studying in this school said that they had asked the school to appoint ayah for the bus and also complained about the rash driving of the driver. The school authorities had warned him, it is said, but he had not mended his ways.

Mother of the boy, Suneeta, said that they have lost their only child. In spite of poverty, she said, she was dreaming of giving him good education and seeing him becoming an officer.
