Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Dec 18: It is learnt that a man killed his wife at Kaje near Gerukatte in the taluk. The murder came to light on Tuesday December 17.

Tasleema (25), wife of Ummer Farooq from Gerukatte happens to be the victim of her husband's cruelty. The police said that Ummer Farooq, a ganja addict, has fled after committing this murder. The police are trying to trace and arrest him.

Tasleema and Farooq couple have a four-year-old daughter and a 16-month-old baby boy. The children are now orphaned.

The locals said that they had seen the couple leaving for downtown along with wife and children at 9 pm on Monday. After 10 pm, there was fight between the husband and wife. Farooq was seen loitering around his house without any hesitation or apprehension till Tuesday afternoon. In the afternoon, people who visited the house grew suspicious as everything was calm and quiet. They informed the police, who found that Tasleema had been murdered and her body was kept in the toilet. Farooq, it is felt, would have fled when the police arrived at the spot. Apparently, he smothered his wife to death with a bed sheet late night on Monday.

Farooq had married thrice, and Tasleema happened to be his third wife. He was facing three ganja consumption and trafficking cases and a dowry case relating to his first wife. His first wife had eventually got divorced from him. Later, he married another lady with whom his relationship was bumpy. Then he married Tasleema, and it is said he used to torture and harass her very day. As he was facing a number of cases, the locals had kept him away.

Farooq was caught with 1.5 kg ganja from near Silk Road in Gerukatte sometime back. He faces a total of seven cases in Beltangady, Venoor and Chikkamagaluru stations. There is suspicion that he was also involved with honeytrap case recently.

Beltangady police, who have registered a case, are continuing with their investigation. The body has been sent to a private hospital at Deralakatte for post-mortem.

Bantwal assistant superintendent of police Saidul Adavat, Beltangady police circle inspector Sandesh P G, and sub-inspector Nandakumar, visited the spot and drew up investigation strategy.

How come, he was facing so many serious cases and caught with 1.5 kgs Ganja in the near past and was freely roaming around? Why he wasn't arrested / left free even after caught with 1.5 Kgs of Ganja? Without any political support he cannot be out of police custody / jail. Then who is that culprit?
