Youth should take up activities that stresses about environmental concern along with academics, said Shirva St Mary’s Education Institutions correspondent and parish priest Fr Richard Coelho.

 


He was speaking at the one-day workshop on environment held at St Mary’s College, Shirva, near here on Thursday September 10. He said that the environmental awareness campaign should be continuously held by education institutions in order to spread awareness among students on safeguarding environment.
 
Zilla panchayat president Gladys D’Almeida inaugurated the workshop and urged the youth to regard the eco-environment with care.

Leo Saldanha and Bhargavi Rao were the chief resource persons, who provided information on rural health, AIDS awareness, women empowerment and global environmental concern. Fr Edwin D’Souza and software engineer Simon D’Souza were the chief guests. The programme was held under the aegis of Environment Support Group.

    Well said Fr. Richard - 100% correct. I agree with you in toto - everybody has to play their role, in safeguarding the environment and protecting the last of the remaining greenery, else we are doomed. Needless to say, efforts being carried out at the eleventh hour by the G7 countries are still turning futile since some insane countries do not believe in the greening philosophy. We are wasting time convincing them. Regrettably, the world is not seeing a in the ozone layers thereby putting us at a vulnerable risk to ultra-violet radiations and overheating of the earth''s troposphere. Needless to say, out of our unending crave and selfishness, we need to blame ourselves for destroying the flora and fauna of the vast greenery that once existed. One way or the other, we are all mute witnesses to sudden climatic changes affecting our lifestyle. Alarm bells are sounding over us. It is time to act. We cannot afford to say anymore "Who cares"
