Karwar: Consultative Meeting of Christian Leaders on Opening of FKCA Branches

Karwar, Sep 11: A consultative meeting of Christian leaders from various parts of the district, about opening of the offices of Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations in Honnavar and Bhatkal taluks of Uttara Kannada district, was held at Prabhodaya Hall, Honnavar here recently. 

Fr Ambrose Fernandes, Fr Lancy Rodrigues of Infant Jesus Church Prabhat Nagar, Fr William Rasquinha of St Francis Assisi Church Hadinbal, Fr Richard Rodrigues and Fr Gregory D'Souza of St Salvadore Church Honnavar, Fr Rudolph Pinto and Pastor Mashek Baila of St Sebastian Church Matadkeri, Samuel Kairanna, Ermiline Rodrigues, Fatima Reddy, Honnavar Diocese Catholic Association president Franky Fernandes and Karwar Akshaya Cooperative Bank chairman Stephen Rodrigues were at the dais.



State president of the Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations, Ronald Colaco, explained about the objectives and aim of the Federation. "There is strength in unity. The time has come for the Christian brethren to come together to strengthen the Christian community and this will be possible only through organized action," he said. State convener of the Federation, Denis D'Silva, explained about the way in which different taluk offices of the Federation function, and how they can work to the advantage of the Christian community.

Pastor Mashek in his address said that the Christians living in Honnavar and Bhatkal taluks are badly in need a Federation like this, as the Christians living here have been facing multifarious problems. He concurred with the view that the solution lies in coming together for a brighter future. Samuel Kairanna said that this is a golden opportunity that the people of different denominations of Christianity have got, to come together. He strongly supported the setting up of an office of the Federation in these two taluks.

Karwar district president of the Federation, Samuel D’Souza, who also was on the dais, addressed the gathering. Monte Fernandes, a senior leader from Karwar, presented the programme. P J Fernandes, a teacher, proposed vote of thanks. About 250 Christians from Honnavar and Bhatkal taluks, belonging to different categories like Catholics, New Life, Protestants and Cyrian diocese participated in the meeting.
