Udupi, Sep 12: Deputy leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, said that everything Lord Krishna did through his Leelas (divine sport), was to achieve comprehensive and inclusive welfare of everyone in the world. Lord Rama was known as 'Maryada Purushottama', as he gave importance for observing principles of righteousness, while Lord Krishna is known as 'Leela Purushottama' as he chose to achieve the welfare of the subjects through the means of Leelas, she added.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the month-long 'Srikrishna Masotsava' held at Srikrishna Mutt here on Friday September 11, she said that right from the childhood activity of Lord Krishna, of stealing curds and the mature and educative activity of preaching the 'Gita' to Arjuna when the latter was confused and was about to unclear about his duties and the activity of presenting his 'Vishwa Darshan', were driven by the motive of achieving the welfare of everyone.
Former union minister and Bangalore South MP Anant Kumar wanted that 'Srikrishna Masotsava' celebrations will not get confined to the 'Rajangana' of the Mutt, but becomes a public festival. As the youngsters now-a-days are forgetting the rich culture of the nation, the spreading of the messages left by Lord Krishna should own the proportions of a popular movement, he said, expressing the faith that the celebration of Krishna Janmashtami will also be held at the school and college levels.
"The country is caught in the mighty grip of the 'Kalinga Sarpa (huge serpent that was tamed by Lord krishna)' of economic downslide, terrorism and the attack of the western culture on our culture. If this 'Kalinga Sarpa' is to be annihilated along with other problems like poverty and corruption, Lord Krishna has to incarnate again. Like the freedom struggle, Rama Janmabhoomi campaign and the JP revolt against emergency, we need another national level movement to crush the problems gripping the country," he opined.
