Dharwad: 'Dead' Girl Sits up in Grave

Daijiworld Media Network - Dharwad (SP)

Dharwad, Sep 12: In a surprising development, a four year-old girl, who had been presumed as dead, suddenly got up and called out her mother, when the concerned started heaping mud on her, after laying her to rest in the freshly dug grave.

The girl in question, named Sharada Guddadavar from Vasana village of Nargund in the district, had been suffering from jaundice since about a month. She had been admitted into KLE Hospital in Belgaum for treatment. The doctors there had opined that the girl would not survive for long, as there was no improvement in her condition even after prolonged treatment. When the doctors told the girl's parents that it would be better to take her home as her days are counted, parents of Sharada gave their nod. While carrying their daughter home on Friday September 10, Sharada’s parents observed that the girl had stopped breathing midway through. Efforts to revive her by patting and calling her repeatedly, failed and the parents prepared for her funeral, concluding that the girl had died.

At around 8.30 pm on Friday, she was laid to rest in the grave and as the people started heaping mud on her, Sharada opened her eyes and called out her mother. The people, who had come for attending the funeral, were taken aback. It took some time for the people to doubly confirm that the girl was alive. The happy parents took the girl home from her grave. The girl's father, Tulasappa Jambagi, admitted his daughter, who lost consciousness thereafter, into KIMS Hospital in Hubli, after providing priliminary treatment at Naragund government hospital.

Disgusting and surprising - these are the two words that comes across my mind - disgusting due to the grave callousness on the part of the culprit doctor responsible for giving a clean chit on the death – which virtually took place due to the lackadaisical attitude of the doctor and the coroner. Goes to prove what a qualified doctor he was. The second culprit involved must have been the mortuary coroner (morgue), since he is the person issuing “death certificate” for release of the body prior to the final ceremony without which this doesn''t take place.

To keep an archive of such happenings in our “shining India” I suggest a film / documentary to be produced and named after “Sharada Guddadavar” so that whenever such a blunder is committed, one should watch this film every-now-and-then, to avoid any recurrence of this saga. The girl must have been considerably lucky that she was not consigned to the flames due to her tender age, however, if it was, she would have been roasted alive.

If this happened, I am sure a communal flareup would have taken place leading to a very devastating effect – which has been seen time and a phenomenon that has happened due to tiny frictions amongst various religions in our sensitive country. One thing missing in your report - the name of the doctor involved. I am sure money must have exchanged hands and palms must have been greased by now to get out of the media glare to avoid any repercussions.

Its nothing but negligence. As doctors told that she will not live long, they decided that she was dead instead of confirming. Mere Negligence

Mr. Arun, as far as I know children upto certain age are not cremated in Hindu custom. Perhaps a Hindu may be able to comment better on this to you.

Thank God eventhough being hindu, they did not put fire on her. Better to bury not to fire the dead body.
