Udupi, Sep 14:
“Women are trying to be self-reliant in all spheres in a male-dominated society.  Meanwhile, rural women are facing setbacks to their freedom owing to a few socio-economic causes and other impoverished women should unite to bring their less fortunate rural counterparts to the mainstream of society by empowering them economically.  The local units of Jaycees Club International (JCI) are doing their part in developing the personality of rural women by organizing talent contests which improve their self-confidence”, said newly-elected zilla panchayat president Gladys D’Almeida.

Gladys D’Almeida was speaking at the inaugural of a talent contest held exclusively for rural women at Billava Sangh Auditorium, Kaup, on Sunday September 13 as part of ‘Jaycees Week – 2009’.

Kaup Jaycees president Arun Shetty Padoor presided over the programme.

Zilla panchayat member Sarasu D Bangera and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project taluk internal auditor Mamata were the chief guests on the occasion.
