Udupi: ZP Convey Displeasure on Lack of Intimation over Declaration of Mid-term Holidays

The 22nd general body meeting of zilla panchayat (ZP) was held at its auditorium here on Wednesday September 16. The meeting was chaired by newly elected ZP president Gladys D’Almeida. 

ZP member Bhujanga Shetty raised the issue of mid-term holidays announced by public instruction department beginning from Saturday September 19, without the knowledge of ZP administration. ZP president Gladys assured the members that a decision will soon be taken in consultation with district in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, in this regard.
 

 

ZP members complained of not undertaking urgent repairs to the stretch of National Highway-17 that passes through the district, despite the deplorable state of highway. ZP chief executive officer (CEO) Prasanna Kumar said that the repairs will be undertaken after separate teams from union, state and district administration takes a survey of existing state of highway. 
 
ZP members also expressed displeasure over the irregularities in selecting the beneficiaries for housing under Indira Awaz Scheme in the district. ZP president Gladys assured that meetings of taluk panchayat CEO officer and heads of gram panchayats in each taluk will be convened, in order to qualify the beneficiaries and to draw final list, at the earliest.
 
ZP member Raju Poojary drew the attention of ZP president Gladys over not recording the minutes of meeting held with school overseeing committees and also irregularities that exist in the campaign of organic farming. Gladys again assured them of taking necessary action in this regard, in consultation with concerned department.
 
ZP member Bhujanga Shetty again raised the issue of injustice caused to a widow employed with Nalkoor gram panchayat, despite her ten years in service. Gladys said that the issue would be looked into, to arrive at a conclusion.
 
At the beginning of the meeting, condolence on the death of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y Rajashekar Reddy and Swami Vibhudeshateerta of Admar mutt was offered.
