Tumkur, Sep 17: After the decorative arch set up on a tractor used for carrying the idol of Lord Ganesha for immersion came in contact with live wire on Wednesday September 16, four persons died on the spot.

Govindaraju (34), Srinivas (26), Gangaiah (31) and Sundar (27) were with the tractor  on which Lord Ganesha idol had been installed, during the immersion procession held at Ankalakoppa village of Gubbi taluk in the district. As the road had huge pot holes, the tractor driver, Govindaraju, suddenly turned the tractor to the right to avoid them. Unfortunately, the electric cables between two roadside poles were hanging loosely. As the ten-foot high tower came into contact with the live wire, electricity flowed through it, causing the death of four persons instantly.
