Raj transport dept to observe 'No Vehicle Day' once a month


Jaipur, Dec 31 (IANS): With the aim to promote road safety, the Rajasthan transport department will make a start in the New Year by observing a No Vehicle Day once a month.

Under the new initiative, all officers and employees of the Transport Department will reach office on cycles or by walking.

The order issued by the Transport Department says that celebration of no vehicle day will start from the first day of the year. After this, the first day of each month shall be observed as 'No Vehicle Day'.

According to order, "All officers and employees working in the Transport Department will come to their offices as pedestrians and cyclists or via transport service on the first working day of every month.

The order duly signed by Rajesh Yadav, Secretary and Commissioner, Transport Department on Monday says that the department is working as a nodal agency to check pollution, endorse use of public transport and check accident rates.

However, physically challenged employees or employees suffering from any disease have been kept out of the purview of this order.
