Bangladeshi capital tightens New Year's Eve security

Dhaka, Dec 31 (IANS): Bangladeshi authorities have tightened security in the capital city of Dhaka ahead of the New Year's Eve on Tuesday.

In a press briefing on Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said no public gathering near roads, flyovers, open spaces or even rooftops will be allowed on Tuesday night, reports Xinhua news agency

Fireworks and parties have also been prohibited.

No incidents of indiscipline, including reckless driving and dancing on Dhaka's streets, would be tolerated, the DMP commissioner said.

Like in previous years, he said they will set up check posts in all strategic points in Dhaka to check unruly mobs.

Striking force and mobile teams will patrol sensitive Dhaka areas round-the-clock to avert any unpleasant incident.
