Bengaluru, Dec 31: State Excise minister Nagesh, who had earlier made a controversial announcement that alcoholic drinks will be delivered to doorstep of consumers, has courted one more controversy on the last day of 2019. He has given a statement that the state government is mulling of providing alcoholic drinks at subsidized rates.

Speaking at the Vikas Soudha in the city, minister Nagesh said, "The government is thinking of providing the cheap liquor, which is consumed most by the poorer section of the society, at a subsidized rate. A scheme is also being chalked out to supply good quality alcohol at cheap rates."

It is not clear whether this statement is personal one from the minister or a development that has actually taken place in the government as earlier also the minister had said that the alcoholic drinks will be provided to the doorstep of the consumers, which made a huge controversy in the state. Chief minister B S Yediyurappa had intervened then and cleared the air by saying that such thought is not there with the government.

Now it has to be seen whether CM Yediyurappa will give a go ahead for this thought of the Excise minister or not.
