Karkala: Mangalore Airport Should be Named ‘Tulunadu Airport’—Dr Veerendra Heggade

Karkala, Sep 19: “Mangalore Airport should be named ‘Tulunadu Airport’ by the union government, in order to give national recognition to the land of Tulu”, said Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade.
Dr Heggade was speaking at the national seminar on ‘Tulu and Its Land’, held at Bhuvanendra College here on Saturday September 19. The seminar is a curtain raiser to the World Tulu Conference.
The seminar was held with the collaboration of the Central Institute of Indian Languages, ministry of HRD, Manasa Gangotri – Mysore University, Karnataka Tulu Academy, Department of Kannada and Culture, and the World Tulu Conference committee.
District in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya inaugurated the seminar and said that he will try to get recognition for Tulu by the state government and also recommend including it in the eighth schedule of the country’s constitution.
MLA Gopal Bhandary said that Dr Heggade’s influence and the strength of Tulu as a regional language should get it world recognition after the successful convening of the World Tulu Conference in December.
Rajesh Sachdev, director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, delivered the keynote address on the occasion.
Tulu litterateur Yerya Laxminarayan Alva, Karnataka Open University vice-chancellor Professor B Vivek Rai, MLA Gopal Bhandary, and Bhuvanendra College principal Dr Padmanabha Gowda were present.
Karnataka Tulu Academy president Paltady Ramakrishna Achar welcomed the gathering. Tulu litterateur Professor Ramachandra proposed the vote of thanks. Tulu writer Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli and Ratnavati G Baikady compered the programme.
