Mangaluru: Anti-CAA protest - Police deny permission to Muslim Central Committee

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (AM)

Mangaluru, Jan 2: The Muslim Central Committee Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district has sought permission to hold a protest meeting at Nehru Maidan against the newly passed Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) on January 4. However, police denied them any permission to hold any protest.

The police, in a press release said, “The application for protest from Muslim Central Committee Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district was sent for an assessment of law and order/ traffic to field units which after due consultation of all stakeholders submitted a report.

“The report said that Nehru Maidan was not suitable for being considered as a venue for protest for massive gatherings for following reasons.

1. The roads surrounding the Nehru Maidan especially clock tower to AB Shetty circle is witnessing massive civil works of Smart City Project with only one way available for traffic, other lane has been deeply dug and poses the threat to public life if heavy gathering gets mobilised.

2. There are several hospitals in the close vicinity, choking of traffic in this area may prevent essential and emergency vehicles from plying and may severely impede ambulance services and supply of medicines.

3. Just about 100 meters from Nehru Maidan, on Old Kent Road chief office of fire and emergency services is located and any disruption of traffic and choking of the roads may severely disrupt these highly essential services.

“The above mentioned issues and other connected facts were communicated to the applicant, president of Muslim Central Committee and an appeal was made to them that permission may be considered if they provide an alternative proposal of venue.

“It is learnt that Muslim Central Committee has postponed the proposed protest. Mangaluru city police thanks Muslim Central Committee and seeks co-operation from all concerned in maintenance of law and order,” stated the press release.

    Jossey Sir,

Answer is simple....they don't attack Police and create Law and Order situation...

This time Shankar and myself planned to attend Bava's protest rally at Nehru Maidan on 4th January....unfortunately Police did not give permission...We are saddened to learn this...like you Sir...We already bought special running shoes for this rally...

Saddened is perhaps lesser word...We are actually heart broken like Bawa and his brother JDS acting president...

    ...Tak...Takk...

What a lame excuse! The same maidan was given for Hindu outfits a few weeks ago to hold goshala programme. The civil work was on that time also and all the hospitals etc were present in the same locality then also.

This clearly shows that we are back to the black period of Karnataka history 2008-13.

Be prepared for more moves against minorities.

All the above mentioned issues are true. Pumpwell flyover is the best alternative venue. All the protests should be shifted on top of the flyover so that kerala, karwar, Bangalore and mangaluru people can notice properly.

Oh my God! I might forget to laugh aftr reading the excuses.

Isn't this the very same maidan used every now and then for all the big functions in mlore including Pm modi visit, etc.

So the right to protest with required permission has been snatched by this govt.

I would love to see where the CP might be transferred aftr 4 yrs wen Congress comes to power next term.

All these reasons police given is excuse to curb democratic right to protest. BJP government scared of planned massive protest.

Police is just pawn of BJP government or any party run government. Whichever government comes they become puppies . India police is like president of India, power in papers !

I remember long back when thogadia s programme permission was denied by then the Congress govt the chaddigalu gangs filed the application in highcourt and the court given the permission saying if govt cannot guarantee the freedom of speech all the time on law and order basis then they have to step down and allow others to handle.

THE MUSLIMS CAN ASK THE SAME COURT NOW AND EVERY TIME CHADDI GOVT CANNOT GET JUDGES LIKE GOGOIIIIIIIIIIII
