Mangaluru: Man jumps off Netravati bridge in suicide bid, search for body on

Mangaluru, Jan 3: In a suspected suicide bid, a 30-year-old man jumped off the Netravati bridge, on Friday, January 3.

The incident took place reportedly at 6:30 am.

The person who jumped into the river has been identified as Navesh Kottari, a resident of Ullalbail. He was the owner of N J Shamiyana. 

Police and fire brigade rushed to the spot. The body is yet to be found and search is on.

    India, has the lowest suicides figures, in the world, despite poverty, unemployment and other tragic personal calamities.... Europe, Russia, have the highest suicide causalities !!! Addiction to substance, like Alcohol and drugs, are primarily the main cause, that triggers, this impulsive behavior... Another root cause is depression !!!!!

    Why people don't opt for dying in sea rather than river?
    Sea is more convenient than river
    Suicides are increasing now a days
    That means people cannot live anymore in India
    Our politicians should take this matter seriously
    Otherwise one day there will not be any one in India only politicians

    Irresponsible MLA/MP and District administration delaying to cover the sidewall of the bridge. In Pumpwell issue, MP's promise gone in air and in Nethravathi issue, MLA's promise gone. Shame

    Why Govt should waste money on building sidewalls on bridges? Can this stop people from committing suicide?
    The person who already decided he will commit suicide and die will find some other alternative. Just because there is a wall on Netravati bridge, he will not give up his thoughts. So, it's not a good idea spending money on such things.

    Instead of steel girders on the side of the bridge, strong nets 5 ft below and by the side would be better and cheaper.The person will have the satisfaction of jumping but will not be injured. A dedicated suicide helpline should be started if not in place already and the number be posted on either end of the bridge and other suicide spots.

    A tragic incident. I really feel bad when one commits suicide.

    People may call such persons as cowards but I think they take these extreme steps when they are really fed up of their lives.

    We should be sensible while commenting. Will you comment the same when some near or dear ones of you commits suicide. Please be sensible. When the time comes, on has to go. It may be suicide, accident, disease..etc..the reasons are many.

    Instead of receiving, in contradiction all Indians are paying back the same amounts of 15 lacs to the government of Acche Din. In reality since Demonetization, this facist government is looting by all means. Not a single person in today's ministry at central government has any idea of country's economics at all!
