Mangaluru: D K Shivakumar did not initiate Jesus’ statue project – MLC Ivan D’Souza

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jan 4: “Former minister and MLA D K Shivakumar did not initiate the project of erecting the statue of Jesus Christ at Kanakapura,” said MLC Ivan D’Souza.

Addressing media here on Saturday, January 4, MLC Ivan D’Souza said, "The erecting of 114 feet tall Jesus Christ statue at Kapala Betta in Kanakapura has made way for controversy which has now become a talking point in political and social circles of the state. Several allegations have been made by BJP against Shivakumar saying that it was done for political benefit, vote bank etc. Several BJP leaders passed statement against Shivakumar.

"Some even said it was controversial land. Further, a minister also alleged that the statue was bring brought up to appease Sonia Gandhi and a strategy from the Congress to secure votes. BJP leaders are unaware about the reason behind the erecting of Jesus’ statue. There is record that Christian community exists in this region since 1662, and some claim it to be Kapali Betta. But the truth is, it is Kapala Betta. It is popularly known as Yesu Betta. Offerings are made by the people on Fridays on fulfilment of their prayers to Jesus. ‘Way of the Cross’ is conducted on every Good Friday from the bottom of the hill to the top across 14 stations by all devotees.

"In the year 2016, Harobele Kapala Betta Development Trust was formed. Through the trust, an application was sent to the government to provide land for religious purpose through MLA D K Shivakumar and MP B K Suresh, which was discussed in the Cabinet and the government approved to provide land.

“There is no politics in erecting the statue of Jesus Christ. The initiative was taken through the trust and D K Shivakumar is only a helping hand as the MLA of the constituency under which Kapala Betta falls. We will take a delegation to meet chief minister B S Yediyurappa and the governor to discuss and settle the matter. We will also visit the Kapala Betta for a reality check,” he said.

Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh president Rolphy D’Costa, corporators Naveen D’Souza and Lancelot Pinto, Sushil Noronha, A C Vinayaraj and others were present.

Mr. Ivan, don't play politics in the name of Jesus Christ. I lived and studied in Christian Institutions in Mangalore and I have a Great

Respect for Jesus Christ, the more simple and humble almighty God. Do some charity and religious work rather than calling for press conference every now and then.

Since every person carrying their own cross in life, we do not need to erect cross or statue, what we need in society is charity towards fellow human beings and animals, I do not see any politician indulge in charity.

Jesus on the significance of a cross / crucifix

    Message to John Leary.

    Thursday, September 6, 2018:...

Jesus said: “My people, I pray that all churches could afford to have a large crucifix placed on the altar. When you have My corpus on the cross, then it is a true crucifix. A cross without My corpus does not convey how much I suffered on My cross. Crosses with a resurrected corpus also do not show My suffering. When you look on My crucifix, this reminds you of how much I love all of you, that I would die for your sins. Give praise and thanks to Me for all I do for you.”

Readers, building statutes of prominent historical personalities, is just plain, simple, politics, pandering to a particular community, for their vote banks !!! The Holy Bible, explicitly prohibits idol worship !!!!!!!

Hello, Roman Catholics don't worship idols. Idols are means, through which we try to understand the image and worship the actual figures/personality... When someone deceased in the family, we place a photo on the wall. This is helping us to remember our near and dear ones and pray for them.

    Jesus on Statues

    Message to John Leary

    Wednesday, February 27, 2019:...

Jesus said: “My people, you have seen statues and pictures of My Sacred Heart. You usually have a large crucifix of Me on your altars. You also could see statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and saints of a given church. Sometimes you may see statues of angels around the altar or the tabernacle. There truly are angels adoring and worshiping Me wherever My consecrated Hosts are stored, and during Mass. This is why I call My faithful to make visits to My tabernacle or My exposition in the monstrance, so you can adore Me in silence. You also see an image of Me in pictures of My Divine Mercy by St. Faustina. You can gain graces by praying before this image. When you pray in church, you can try and imitate the lives of the saints and Me. You may see icons of My Blessed Mother and the saints in Eastern Rite Churches. All of these images and statues add beauty and purpose to My churches in addition to My Presence, so be thankful they are in your churches.”

Dan M, Dubai / Mangalore, please quote Bible scriptures, what you have quoted/written none of which is Biblical.

This is what Bible says about images:
Leviticus 26:1 - Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up [any] image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I [am] the LORD your God.

Exodus 20:4 - Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth.

    Ivan,

I don't know about Kapala Betta....so would not like to comment...DKS is capable of taking this to its 'logical conclusions'.....

If you plan to install a Jesus Statue in Mudarangady....our full support to you....if its above 100 feet, I believe even people of Belman are able to see it from Belman...

I am sure Cynthi will contribute as well...

Lan sir, actually I don't support for this cause.....Must build statues in our heart... and pray. The statues those built in the heart no one sees but people see our attitude, our behavior, our humanity... Others can't humiliate or mock or insult. Build something which is useful like hospitals, ashrams for the homeless, destitutes, orphans, abandoned... I will support this cause and try to contribute as per my ability.....many won't like the statues built in public.. They will pass comments, laugh, do mockery etc etc etc which is not at all good in general. Km?

Ivan thank you for clarifying. My humble request for all political parties please dont use Jesus Christ for political tool. Jesus is divine and using his holy name for political use will destroy any political party and thier families. my humble request for all do your best to help the people to install the cross and that's it. Politicians please read bible for sure it will lead you to a right path to lead and govern honestly. Amen

A Cross is good idea, but a bare cross without Jesus's ultimate sacrifice is worthless, the same way the exact letters written should be there if it has to be revered as a preacher explained in a sermon.

The people of area and Mr shivkumar are capable to solve the problem. The people in the are be allowed to live peacefully with harmony. Don't use JESUS name for your vote bank name. The religion named Christian two thousands years back is like a rock not change by sun or rain. It was existed before that.
And that religion existed even before naming Christian. The principles still exist and will exist and continue till the end of this world. Those who have doubt read history. Jesus never preached Christianity. Our God is not a foreign God. The God the father is our God. The God the father is with in us. Dont search outside. Please politicians don't disturb the God the fathers children
