Beltangady, Sep 22: MP Nalin Kumar will commence his 'village stay' plan by staying at Shishila village in the taluk in the first week of October this year. His next destination will be Kombar village within Sullia assembly constituency.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Koraga Colony and taking part in the felicitation function organized in his honour at Melantabettu on Monday September 21, he said, he wants to get first hand information about the problems plaguing the villages within his constituency. He stressed, that his visits will be confined to backward hamlets alone. He assured that he would speak to the Chief Minister on the need to re-asphalt Yelaneeru - Didupe, Punjalakatte - BC Road and Guruvayankere - Uppinangady roads.
During the MP's visit to Koraga Colony in Melantabettu, several local residents told him that a few persons had fleeced them after collecting money and promising them to sanction houses under 'Ashraya' scheme, and requested him to ensure that they get benefits under this scheme. He visited the house of Sanjeeva Achary from the village, who recently died in a garage tragedy, and the local Sri Nagabrahma temple.
Speaking at the felicitation function, he told the people that politicians alone can not change everything in the country. While admitting that politicians have hugely contributed to the all-encompassing phenomenon of corruption, he asserted that the officials have been the major players in spreading corruption, and their contribution towards aggravating this menace has been much more, as compared to politicians. He blamed the Congress Party for giving impetus to corruption.
Former MLA Prabhakar Bangera, Meltantabettu gram panchayat member Balakrishna Shetty and others were present.
