Mangaluru: Mescom proposes to deliver 62-paise shock to consumers

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 5: Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Mescom) has proposed to increase power tariff by 62 paise per unit for the year 2020-21. It has sent a proposal recommending this hike to Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Authority (KERC). Mescom has jurisdiction over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts.

In putting up the proposal, Mescom said that it has considered all classes of power consumers from the city and rural areas.

The company had sought permission from the KERC to increase the power tariff by Rs 1.38 per unit las year, but the KERC which held public meetings at various places, had permitted Mescom and other electricity supply companies to increase power rate by an average of 33 paise per unit. For domestic consumers in rural and urban areas, only 25 paise per unit hike was permitted.

The power tariff hike, which was announced on May 31 by KERC, was made retrospectively effective from April 1.

People who have objections to Mescom's proposal may file objections by sending the same in requisite format to the receiving officer, KERC, 16C-1, Miller Tank Bed Area, Vasanth Nagar, Bengaluru. The objections should be in six sets and one set should be sent to the superintending engineer (commercial), Corporate Office, Mescom Bhavan, Bijai, Mangaluru along with affidavit.

They compulsorily charging Rs 250 to 300 depending upon the area even you are not staying in the house like a monthly haptha, which MESCOM is not supposed to charge. Now again they want to increase the unit tariff. MESCOM management should learn from the uncorrupt Delhi PM Mr. Arvind Kejriwal.

This is natural. They can increase price for everything under bjp administration. An onion can cost ₹178.00, why not electricity ? No issues, vote bjp, vote vote one day Indians have to pay huge amount to the bank to keep their money safe in the banks. Otherwise, nirmala seetharaman will declare bankruptcy of all banks including RBI soon. Wait and tell me.

Delhi AAP government giving 200 units of free electricity and the rate is not increased for the last 5 years. Whereas we pay fixed charges around Rs.200/- even if we're lock the house and go abroad.
Throw this BJP and Congress out if power and bring AAP in Karnataka and see the development in education, health, water, electricity and governance.
We deserve to pay high for electing corrupt people.

Even so, I am not happy with the hike, I would like to appreciate the way in which all MESCOM employees are working. Swift action on complaints, 24x4 support... Excellent job by MESCOM.

This was expected. Adani has taken over New Mangalore Port, they are importing coal & the handling charges have gone up considerably. All the local stevedores have lost their business & also the locals have lost their jobs. The end result is that the people have to pay higher electricity dues. MESCOM, please buy power from Tata Power.

Think only on increasing the price but what about the quality of the electricity? We have frequent power off and must have additional gadgets like stabilizers to protect our equipment. MESCOM should learn from Mumbai Electricity Board as there is no such problem in Mumbai.
