Moodbidri: Alden Noronha bags first place in 110m hurdles at 80th All India level athletic meet

Moodbidri, Jan 6: Alden Noronha representing Mumbai University and coached by Dayanand Shetty, bagged first place in Men's 110m Hurdles at 80th All India level inter-university athletic meet at Alva's College on Sunday, January 5. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri, are jointly organising the athletic championship under the auspices of Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Alden had bagged a number of prizes in various events including, first place in 110m hurdles at the Khelo India Youth Games 2019 at Belwadi, Pune, with a timing was 14.10s, first position in 110 m hurdles in Mumbai University athletics championship 2019 at Mumbai and first position in 110 m hurdles at the 34th junior national athletic championship 2018 at Ranchi, where he clocked 13.96s. He created a new meet record in 110 hurdles at the Mumbai university athletics championships 2017 held at Mumbai. Apart from winning a number of events, he represented India in 100 m, hurdles at the World School Games held at Trabzon, Turkey with a time of 14.07s. His winning streak started in 2014 at the west zonal national athletics meet 2014 at Raipur, Chhattisgarh which he won.

Alden (20) is the son of Anil Noronha and Helen Noronha. After completing nursery, kindergarten, primary and secondary education at Jingles Nursery Andheri (E) and St Dominic Savio High School, he completed junior college education at Sathaye Junior College, Vile Parle. He is currently pursuing third year degree course in electronics engineering in Fr Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering.

Aldlen's talent was identified in 2005 when in first grade by Dayanand Shetty and his first competition was one km race for under 10 boys category at the Joe Crasto Memorial Beach Run in 2007. He won his first medal at this event in 2008. Thereafter there was no stopping for him, and he started winning medals regularly. After a heel injury in 2009 when in fifth grade, he went through a period of low morale and was about to leave sports. But he got motivated and started to participate in 400 m run in 2012 when in seventh grade. He won several inter-school events between 2013 and 2015 by breaking a number of records.
