Destroying the idea of India: Kapil Sibal on JNU violence

New Delhi, Jan 6 (IANS): Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Monday criticised the Centre over the violence in the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

While attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said that the BJP was destroying the idea of India.

Kapil Sibal tweeted: "Achhe Din ! With the police as collaborators : Masked men : Destroying the idea of a "university" Masked agendas : Destroying the idea of "India".

And the "chowkidar" watches, unfazed !"

The Congress has come out heavily on the government on this issue.

Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the "Fascist are in control of the government."

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Sunday evening to meet the injured students.

On Sunday in Jawaharlal Nehru University several masked individuals, both male and female, thrashed students, including girls, and teachers inside the varsity campus with wooden and metal rods.

Two officer-bearers of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), including President Aishe Ghosh, who was reportedly hit over the eye with an iron rod, received severe injuries. They accused Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for the violence in the campus.

"I have been brutally beaten up by masked people. I don't know who they were," Ghosh said as she broke into tears while blood flowed profusely from her head. She has been taken to a nearby hospital.

JNUSU General Secretary Satish Chandra was also injured in the attack.

Dont play politics here. The JNU-students have given their campus an image of a mini-pakistan, syria, etc., where destructive activities keep happening as a routine...communist and congressi leaders stoke fires and laugh it away in their drawing-rooms while the students suffer for their own foolishness in compulsive participation in protests and riots in the guise of freedom of expression. Some visuals on TV and pics in news show how many students have turned their rooms literally into "permanent homes" with complete cooking-facilites , etc., thus showing their dependence of doles and freebies from the govt. that attracts them to indulge in all kinds of destruction as long as they can stay there for years in the cover of scholarlly research at the tax-payers' cost. Such incidents now shoiuld help[ in taking decisive action is closing the university or making students pay for their stay in the hostels atleast. No wonder JNU is having students as old as 40.
