IIT-Madras, Madras Univ hold protests against JNU violence


Chennai, Jan 6 (IANS): Students of Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) and University of Madras on Monday staged a protest against the violence in Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday in which several students and teachers were injured.

"A group of students took out a procession against the violence in JNU and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)," a member of Chinthabar, a student body in IIT-M told IANS.

He said students are now discussing on the events that are happening in the country and in JNU, and a decision on further course of protest will be taken after the deliberations.

Meanwhile at the University of Madras, a group of students resorted to a sit-in protest.

"We protested inside the University campus from 11.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.," A.T. Elakkiyan, a second year M.A. political science student, told IANS.
