Udupi, Jan 6: A youngster who was released from jail recently committed suicide on the night of Sunday January 5. The incident came to light on Monday January 6.
The deceased has been identified as Atish D'Silva (23), a resident of Katapady.
Atish was engaged in painting work. About five months ago he was booked in a case in Manipal police station, and had spent three months in jail. He was released in November 2019.
After coming out from jail, Atish was under constant tension and became irregular in his work.
On January 5 at around 10.30 pm, he had dinner with his family members and went to his room to sleep. On Monday morning, he did not come out of the room for breakfast, and the family initially assumed he was sleeping late. However, when he did not open the door for long despite his brother Ashwin knocking on the door repeatedly, the family members grew anxious and looked through the room's window from the outside. To their shock, they saw that Atish had hanged himself from the ceiling fan's hook using a shawl.
The family members immediately broke open Atish's door and saw that he had already passed away.
The body was later shifted to Udupi district mortuary.
Kaup police have registered a case.
