Nirbhaya case - All four convicts to be hanged on January 22

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 7: A Delhi Court has set January 22, 7 am as the date and time for the execution of the four convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case.

Additional Sessions Judge Satish Kumar Arora while issuing death warrants directed the convicts to be hanged on January 22 at 7 a.m. at Tihar Jail.

The court issued its warrant on the death sentence on Monday, after the prosecution said that the review petition by the convicts was dismissed by the Supreme Court and that there was no pending application before any court or the President as of now.

The counsel also added that if the convicts want to avail any remedy, they can do so in the next 14 days. Meanwhile, AP Singh, counsel for the convicts said that a curative petition will be filed with the Supreme Court and sought more time.

On December 18, Nirbhaya’s parents had approached the Patiala High Court in New Delhi to issue death warrants. On the same day, a review petition filed by one of the convicts Akshay Kumar Singh was dismissed.

It may be recalled, a 23-year-old woman was brutally gangraped and tortured on December 16, 2012, which led to her death. Six accused were arrested and charged with sexual assault and murder. One of the accused was a minor and appeared before a juvenile justice court, while another accused committed suicide in Tihar Jail.

Four of the convicts were sentenced to death by a trial court in September 2013, and the verdict confirmed by the Delhi High Court in March 2014 and was upheld by the Supreme Court in May 2017 which also dismissed their review petitions.

Since 7 years, fifth criminal who is claimed to be "minor" has not reached maturity? Then what was his age when he involved in raping this unfortunate girl? If he knows to rape he should also ho through the punishment... One day or the other he will be matured... Punish him the same way like these four idiots...

Don't hang...just give them rigorous punishment so that they can remember each and every day what the shameless act they did. And it will be a lesson to all. But history repeats.

Whatever, justice is being served. Quick justice is always dangerous as due to our corrupt system, a innocent may be hanged. Courts have a procedure, convicts have various levels of appeals....
