Indian GM Iniyan finishes second in Stauffer Open


Chennai, Jan 8 (IANS): Indian chess Grandmaster (GM) P. Iniyan kicked off the New Year in style by finishing second in the Staufer Open chess tournament in Germany recently.

The tournament saw the participation of over 200 players from about 15 countries.

The organiser used a pairing system known as accelerated pairing where players have to face only tough opponents from the start, Iniyan's father Panneerselvam told IANS.

After suffering a loss in the second round, Iniyan played some good chess to win five games and draw two, ending with seven points.

Iniyan is coached by K. Visweswaran.
