Skating siblings Ashwin, Ashel from Mangaluru shine at international event

Mangaluru, Jan 8: Skating siblings from city, Ashwin D’Silva and Ashel D’Silva, made remarkable achievements in South East Asian Trophy which was held at January 4 and 5 at Jcube Mall, Singapore.

While Ashwin bagged three gold medals in 500, 1000,and 1500 meters in junior A men’s category and two silver medals in the men's relay (3000 mts) and mixed relay (2000meters), his sister Ashel won a silver medal in junior ladies’ relay (2000 mts) in junior girls’ C D E category.

The championship is organized by Ice Skating Union and Singapore Ice Skating Association. The championship saw a participation of athletes from over 14 countries.

Ashwin, student of 1st year BBA St Aloysius College, has attended number of international championships and already secured many medals. Last year, he had qualified for world junior championships held at Montreal, Canada in January. He had also represented India at the World Cup which was held in Dresden, Germany, in the month of February 2019.

Ashel is a student of Cambridge School and studying in 10th standard. She was the first Indian girl to qualify to the World Junior Championship which was held in Montreal, Canada, last year.

Ashwin and Ashel are the children of Alwyn and former corporator Asha D’Silva.
