Mangaluru: Annual Sports Day held at Milagres College

Mangaluru, Jan 8: Milagres College organised Annual Sports Day on January 7 at Mangala Stadium, Ladyhill.

Chief guest Joseph G Gonsalves, chief warden, Mangaluru, guest of honuor Nigel Pereira, vice president, Milagres Parish Pastoral Parishad, president Fr Joseph Lobo, correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions, Fr Michael L Santhumayor, Principal, Milagres College, and Ravi Walke, physical director, were present for the inaugural programme.

Fr Michael L Santhumayor welcomed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion chief guest emphasized on the five S’s of sports: Stamina, Speed, Strength, Skill, and Spirit and said the greatest of these is Spirit. He also motivated students to actively take part in all the events.

Presiding over the programme Fr Joseph Lobo said sports helps in fostering team spirit, cooperation and leadership skills. It also instills a spirit of discipline and dedication which are the core values of a student.

Various track and field events such as Relay, Running, Long Jump, Shot put, Discus, Tug-of-War for staff and students were organized. Students of I BSc HS, I B Com ‘A’ and I BS. FND won prizes for their outstanding March past.

The valedictory ceremony was held in the afternoon. Hilda Rodrigues, secretary, Milagres Parish Pastoral Parishad, was the chief guest of the programme. She appreciated all the participants and congratulated the winners.

Eva Manorama compered the programme. Princita and Ravi Walke rendered the vote of thanks.
