NGO wants Nirbhaya convicts' hanging to be telecast live

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS): With the Nirbhaya convicts set to be hanged on January 22, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has approached the Information and Broadcasting Ministry with a highly unusual request.

PARI, a Delhi-based NGO, has demanded that the hanging of the four convicts be telecast live.

Yogita Bhayana, a women's rights activist and founder of PARI, has written in this regard to the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar.

Bhayana said that the hanging of the convicts provides the right opportunity to allay global concerns over women's security in India. She has urged the minister to allow the local and international media for live telecast of the convicts' execution in the Nirbhaya gang.

The 'Nirbhaya' victim was brutally gangraped and murdered on December 16, 2012. Four of the accused in the case have been sentenced to death and are scheduled to be hanged on January 22.

No please. this is not right. TV is watched by everyone these days. Just imagine the scene will make the impression on the young minds. they might try to attempt the same.

It is fine that the same is just conveyed over televsion or newspapers.

We are not a Islamic country and would like to remain so, though changu and mangu are trying to convert it into a Hindu nation.

Overwhelming majority of Indians have lost faith in the present govt. Rapists, murderers and criminals are very dear to this govt and offer them lucrative positions in ABVP. This govt can shield these convicts and hang some dummies or dead from the grave to fool people. A wise demand by NGO.

Not me. It's like going back in time. better would be to live telecast the fear on their faces before their hanging. that will act as a deterrent to rest of the would be rapists.
